New York Tour

In 2015, its 30th anniversary year, the Hessen State Youth Jazz Orchestra together with its Vocal Group goes to New York! Big Apple, here we come!

The main goal of the tour in the world’s center of jazz was a cultural exchange program featuring the Hessen State Youth Jazz Orchestra and students of the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). Principal features were workshops, a joint concert with the college big-band as well as performances in the German Consulate General and famous New York jazz clubs.

Under the leadership of Wolfgang Diefenbach — conductor and vocal coach —, and the faculty of the College, the young musicians and singers gathered valuable experience by collaborating with American artists in music workshop sessions. The concert performances and jam sessions, in addition to the intensive collaboration with American musicians, continued the valuable artistic dialog with jazz musicians and singers at the international level.

Some of the world’s most famous jazz clubs are in New York. But above all it is the small, innovative clubs that are increasing in significance; it was here that the Hessen State Youth Jazz Orchestra went on-stage in one of the world’s most exciting cities.
